The short version
- aurariago.com sets no cookies. Not for analytics, not for advertising, not for anything else.
- The website keeps one small piece of session storage, described below, so it doesn't send your phone to the app store twice in a row. It is not a cookie, contains nothing about you, and is erased when you close the tab.
- The apps use no cookies and no tracking. What they keep on your phone is listed below.
- Because everything we store is strictly necessary for the site or app to work, no consent banner is required under the GDPR, the UK PECR, the ePrivacy Directive, or US state privacy laws. If that ever changes, a consent choice will appear before anything new is set.
What the website stores
Session storage (not a cookie)
When you open aurariago.com on a phone, the page sends you to the App Store or Google Play.
So that you can come back and read the site without being sent again, it writes a single
flag, ag-redirected, to your browser's session storage. It holds no personal
data, is never sent to us or anyone else, and is deleted automatically when the tab closes.
Adding ?stay=1 to the address skips the redirect without storing anything.
Hosting logs
The site is served by Netlify. Like any web host, Netlify records standard server logs (IP address, browser type, the page requested, and the time) to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. These logs are kept briefly by Netlify under its own privacy policy; we do not use them to identify or track visitors, and we do not add any analytics on top.
What we don't do
- No analytics (no Google Analytics, no Plausible, no pixels of any kind).
- No advertising or retargeting cookies.
- No social media embeds, chat widgets, or third-party fonts that could set their own cookies.
- No fingerprinting.
What the apps store on your phone
The AurariaGO apps do not use cookies. They keep the following on your device only, so the app works:
- Your class schedule, chosen building, and preferences for the map, reminders, and assistant. These never leave your phone.
- Your sign-in session for the Community section, if you've verified a school email, kept in the iOS Keychain or Android's app-private storage.
- A cache of feeds and photos you've already loaded, so the app opens quickly and downloads each photo once. Signing out clears it.
- Posts you chose to hide, so they stay hidden on that device.
Deleting the app removes all of it. Details of what the Community section sends to our server, and why, are in the Privacy Policy.
Links to app stores and other sites
When you tap through to the App Store or Google Play, or open a link another student put on their profile, that site's own cookie and privacy practices apply. We have no control over them.
Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
Since we don't track visitors at all, there is nothing for these signals to switch off. We honor them by default.
Changes
If we ever add anything that stores more on your device than what's listed here, we'll update this page, update the "Last updated" date, and ask for consent in the app or on the site first where the law requires it.
